Casals was a genius not only in terms of music playing but also in the sense of making music a tool for political and social progress. His collaboration with contemporary virtuosos, e.g. Schneider and Horszowski here playing Schubert's Trio No.2 at 1952's Prades Festival, was an intellectually enlightening occasion for those who travelled to the bordering town overlooking his belligerent homeland, whose coughs and breaths were captured on this Columbia ML 4716 records, releasing a strong sense of liveliness of music performance. Their playing was full of wit and poignancy, the pulsating flow of notes and pinpointing accentuation of emotion seem unmatched by other modern group until today. Helped by the vivid mono sound, this performance renders a musical picture that is pure, urgent, impulsive and adolescent, making that night in mountains and trees eternally unforgettable and soulfully unfathomable.
To commemorate the day April, 19th.
